Coalition Manager

JOB PURPOSE: To provide technical and administrative support to a coalition of national racial and
social justice organizations and independent advocates in advancing the vision and mission of the
coalition, and in meeting the goals and objectives outlined in the coalition’s 2-year work plan.

SUPERVISOR: HRJN COALITION CO-CHAIRS

SALARY RANGE: $2800/month ( working an average of 15-20 hours/week)

FTE/PTE: This is a part-time position. It can either be a part-time employee position with benefits,
housed at an HRJN partner organization; or an independent consultant position. Please clearly

ESTIMATED START DATE: April 2020

FUNDING: Position is funded for 18 months

ABOUT HIV RACIAL JUSTICE NOW
HIV Racial Justice Now is a national coalition of activists of color and allies advancing a racial justice and human rights
agenda for the HIV movement. We came together because of the need to center racial justice in the HIV dialogue,
policies and industry. We elevate and amplify the leadership of people of color and infuse a racial justice praxis into all
aspects of the HIV response.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
HIV Racial Justice Now Coalition seeks a Coalition Manager to support the work of the coalition. This is a position for
someone interested in advancing intersectional approaches to racial justice in the HIV space. The Coalition Manager will
join the dynamic and highly collaborative HRJN Coalition, which engages groups across the country to advance a
broader, more inclusive, and more effective HIV justice movement, intentionally focused on advancing racial justice and
dismantling racism.

The person in this role can expect to lead and facilitate a number of projects that are specifically focused on the
intersection of racial equity and HIV. They will manage a portfolio of work with organizations and individuals across the
country that are working to build an intersectional and strategic approach that can bridge the HIV movement with
movements for racial and social justice. This will involve shepherding a variety of projects - including broad-based
endeavors with a national scope, as well as placed-based, more localized conversations and projects - from concept to
launch, while managing and completing project timelines, budgets and deliverables along the way.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The HRJN Coalition Manager will be responsible for the following:

Project Leadership & Management -
● Enhance, flesh out, and operationalize the coalition’s vision as established in its 2-year work plan.
● Demonstrate consistent quality of effective program development and administration, financial management,
and communications, including social media platforms; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve
the identified work plan goals.
● Work with coalition co-chairs to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality project management.
● Provide leadership in development of inter-coalition communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and
supporting members during the project period.

Policy, Advocacy & Communication -
● Represent HRJN Coalition at key advocacy and policy meetings.
● Proactively identify, and work with steering committee to respond to, opportunities for the coalition to make
statements or otherwise join the conversation on issues, events, and developments relevant to its work.
● Develop and adapt curricula and other training and communication materials on HIV racial justice for coalition.

Administrative Support and Data Management -
● Support coordination of the work of the coalition including scheduled meetings of the coalition, drafting
agendas, overseeing meeting logistics, prepping any meeting materials and composing and distributing notes
● Maintain routine communications with coalition members
● Monitor and manage the coalition’s email account and other records/files, including routinely reviewing email
and written requests and responding/forwarding/flagging for action accordingly
● Maintain roster of coalition members
● Research, compile and maintain inventory of existing materials and training resources focused on racial justice
● Develop and maintain website and social media platforms
● Oversee consultants brought in for specific HRJN projects

Conference/Meeting Planning and Coordination -
● Work with the Coalition Steering Committee to plan and coordinate member retreat to be convened in 2020
● Identify and vet venue options for the retreat
● Manage all logistics planning and coordination leading up to and day of the retreat
● Coordinate development and submission of conference abstracts for presentation of coalition-related work

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
● Knowledge of HIV policy and racial justice issues, experience working with community groups, and familiarity
with inclusive language
● Excellent administrative, analytical and organizational skills; ability to balance multiple priorities and
commitments while performing tasks seamlessly, on-time and with excellent attention to detail
● Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Google G Suite
● Expertise in social media for advocacy
● Skills in bringing projects forward
● Ability to manage a high volume of correspondence and requests across multiple focus areas
● Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with partners, donors and community members; expert
written and verbal communication skills
● Bilingual English/Spanish strongly encouraged; proficiency in other languages desirable
● Highly resourceful team-player; works well and collaboratively with others
● Ability to work independently, and to work under pressure to meet multiple and competing deadlines
● Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities; actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions
● Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information and communications with care and discretion

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position works remotely and must have computer, wifi and smartphone access.
